George Raft RaceGeorge Raft Race

The prestigious Race named after the Hollywood actor of the same name originated in merry old England where contestants from a certain village there would build rafts out of “stuff’ left about and would race along a stream. Englishmen and local canvas Shop owner Bob Knapp revived this race here a number of years ago. Rules are that the raft material needs not to be purchased and the contestants has to be on top of the raft not in it. Each race participant will be requested to sign the hold-harmless agreement below.  Please consult a physician prior to participation, if there is any question about your health status.
The water temperature of Harbor Marina is relatively warm compared to the waters of the Puget Sound; however, all participants are required to use a suitable floatation device.  All participants will sign in before entering the race.
The annual Prestigious George Raft Race will commence at 1 pm Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the Blaine Harbor public boat launch and will conclude at the visitor’s dock. (Gate ll), below the Harbor Master’s Office. Participants paddle homemade rafts built from recycled floatable materials. This event is modeled in part from Devonshire's River Lyn annual raft race that has taken place in England since the middle ages. All are welcome to join in the raft race or just watch the excitement as spectators. The first place winner will take home bragging rights and a one-year ownership of the coveted Prestigious George Raft Race Trophy. To download the Hold Harmless Form for the race, click here.
Take a ride on the historic Plover Ferry to Semiahmoo Spit both Saturday from 12 - 8 pm and Sunday from 10 am - 6 pm. On Saturday, finish the day by enjoying a movie under the stars at 9:00 pm at Blaine Marine Park.

The fun continues on Sunday with more arts and crafts vendors, kid’s activities, Plover ferry rides, and boat displays. Bring your pets, dressed up in costume or to show off their latest tricks, for a chance to win a prize in the pet contest at the Blaine Boating Center at 1 pm!
